Global Material Library

When ODEON is installed for a first time in your PC it stores the default database of materials in a file called Material.Li8 inside the Materials subfolder. The usual path of the Materials subfolder and the rest subfolders used by ODEON can be seen in the figure below:

You can see the paths window by choosing Options>Program setup. If you want to restore the ODEON's default material library (probably because you accidentally deleted a material) you can download the Material.Li8 file from here and paste/replace it at the Materials sub floder in the path mentioned above.

Material Manufacturers

In the extensible material library in ODEON every 1000 numbers has a category as seen below. In each category the first 100 materials should be reference materials. We have suggested a few to begin with. Hereafter there will be room for 9 different manufactures lists (e.g. with number 1100-1199). You decide which manufacturer (e.g. from below list of links) should have what numbers when inserting the material list in ODEON.

9000-9999 Natural materials (e.g. sand, grass, water…)

Absorption and scattering coefficients for natural materials cannot be easily found in common data sheets. A reason is that such materials are not so often used in rooms and in general there are not studies carried out in order to measure them.

Delany-Bazley Model

The absorption coefficients for some porous materials, like grass or pasture field can be calculated using the characteristic impedance of the material from the empirical model by Delany-Bazley. The following calculator gives the octave-band absorption coefficients given the flow resistivity of the material, σ, and the angle of incidence, θ. Typical values of the flow resistivity for ground with vegetation are between 25000 kgm-3s-1 (for very soft forest floor or thick moss) and 500000 kgm-3s-1 (for compacted lawns). Normal uncompacted ground with vegetation (pasture field) typically has a flow resistivity of about 200000 kgm-3s-1.
